The role of a Bookkeeper at Bruntwork
Schedule: Full Time 40 h/week Within Eastern Business hours.
Job Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to manage daily financial transactions and maintain accurate accounting records. This role handles accounts payable and receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, basic financial reporting, and supports payroll, tax compliance, and audits. The ideal candidate has experience with accounting software, strong attention to detail, and a solid understanding of basic accounting principles.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Record Management
- Record, maintain, and verify daily financial transactions
- Maintain the general ledger with accurate coding and classifications
- Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and current
Accounts Payable
- Process and record vendor invoices
- Prepare and schedule payments in accordance with payment terms
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
Accounts Receivable
- Prepare and issue customer invoices
- Record and apply incoming payments
- Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue accounts
Bank and Credit Card Reconciliations
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements on a regular basis
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
Payroll Support (as applicable)
- Record payroll transactions and related deductions
- Reconcile payroll reports with accounting records
- Maintain payroll documentation and records
Financial Reporting
- Prepare basic financial reports including Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets
- Provide financial summaries and supporting documentation to management and accountants
Tax and Compliance Support
- Maintain records required for tax filings
- Track and report applicable sales taxes (e.g., GST/HST)
- Assist internal & external accountants during audits or year-end processes
Records Management & Controls
- Maintain organized and secure financial records (digital and physical)
- Follow internal controls and financial procedures
- Identify and escalate irregularities or discrepancies
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role
- Experience using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks
- ERP system experience in inventory control and process
Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
