Shopify’s Dev Degree program combines a Computer Science degree with hands-on work experience. Our unique one-of-a-kind work-integrated learning model provides the skills and confidence to prepare you for a career in Software Engineering. Throughout your Dev Degree journey, our team will guide, evaluate, and provide you with actionable feedback to support your growth, and help you have an impact at Shopify!
In your first year, you’ll be working on the Developer Skills Training Path learning the tools, technologies, and methodologies that will prepare you to join an Engineering team at Shopify. At the same time, you’ll be attending one of our partner universities.
Depending on what partner university you attend, you’ll either join an Engineering team and experience building products at Shopify while continuing to study Computer Science after your first 4 months on the Developer Skills Training Path (York University), or after your first 8 months (Carleton University).
Questions about our program can be found on our FAQ page.
Dev Degree combines both working and learning. You do not need any previous experience in Computer Science or Software Engineering to apply! We’re looking for passionate, ambitious people who want to continuously grow and have an impact at Shopify. Below are experiences and skills that are important for success in Dev Degree:
Dev Degree is a remote program. There may be opportunities to gather in person, but your work and learning at Shopify will be done remotely.
We know that applying for University programs can be both exciting and time-consuming, and we truly appreciate your effort. The Early Career Team is actual real live people (👋🏻) and are looking forward to learning more about you through your application.
Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.
This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.
Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.
