Your Role

As a Placement Success Advisor at Virtual Internships, you will be the driving force behind the success of our global internship placements. Acting as a trusted advisor, coach, and mediator, you’ll guide interns and companies through the internship journey — ensuring clarity, accountability, and positive outcomes for both sides.

This role blends elements of customer success, mentorship, and people operations, requiring both empathy and thoughtful problem-solving. You’ll oversee a portfolio of global internships, spot potential challenges early, and create actionable plans that lead to growth, learning, and satisfaction for every participant.

The role will start as a 3-month full-time contract role, with potential to become permanent dependent on performance.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Portfolio & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of interns and companies.
  • Build and nurture trusted, long-term relationships that encourage partnership and retention.
  • Confidently handle sensitive or high-stakes situations, ensuring both parties feel heard and supported.

2. Internship Oversight & Performance Management

  • Proactively monitor intern performance and engagement using weekly feedback data and qualitative insights.
  • Identify early warning signs and intervene before issues escalate, guiding both intern and company toward solutions.
  • Maintain transparent documentation of interactions, progress, and outcomes in internal systems.

3. Coaching & Mentorship

  • Coach interns on professional and communication skills that drive workplace success.
  • Advise company supervisors on best practices for mentoring, feedback, and cultural alignment.
  • Help both parties clarify expectations and outcomes, ensuring smooth collaboration.

4. Conflict Resolution & Mediation

  • Address challenges such as performance misalignment or miscommunication with empathy and structure.
  • Facilitate fair, solutions-oriented conversations that rebuild trust and reset expectations.
  • Use data and judgment to design clear plans of action that balance accountability with support.

5. Internal Collaboration & Insights

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless intern and company journey.
  • Represent the voice of the customer internally, surfacing insights to inform platform design and process improvement.
  • Contribute ideas to enhance the quality and scalability of internship success systems.

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Mission-Driven Impact: See the direct results of your work through tangible intern growth and improved company mentorship—you’ll know the difference you’re making.
  • Human-Centered Work: Spend your days solving real people’s challenges, not just managing admin.
  • Autonomy & Trust: Make thoughtful decisions and shape outcomes within clear frameworks—you’ll be trusted to act.
  • Global Collaboration: Engage daily with colleagues, interns, and supervisors from diverse countries, cultures, and industries.
  • Continuous Growth: Build expertise across coaching, mediation, and customer success—all within a fast-moving, high-impact environment.
  • (P.S the secret password is “penguin”, you’ll need this later)

Who We’re Looking For

You’re energized by building relationships, navigating complexity, and helping others grow. You bring a calm, proactive, and thoughtful approach to every interaction — especially when things get challenging. You don’t shy away from tough conversations; you lead them with empathy and clarity.

Your Attributes

  • Relationship-Focused: You value people over process and prioritize trust-building in every interaction.
  • Poised Under Pressure: You stay centered, constructive, and forward-looking, even when juggling competing priorities.
Emotionally Intelligent: You read between the lines, listen deeply, and respond with both empathy and boundaries.
  • Analytical & Proactive: You connect dots quickly and address root causes, not just symptoms.
  • Clear Communicator: You express yourself with clarity and tact, especially in sensitive or cross-cultural situations.
  • Balanced & Fair: You see both sides — advocating for interns and companies equally to create shared success.

Your Experience

The ideal candidate will bring 1-2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Customer Success / Account Management: Managing diverse portfolios, maintaining partner satisfaction, and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Learning & Development / Coaching: Guiding professionals through structured growth or mentorship programs with actionable, real-world advice.
  • People Operations / HR: Supporting individuals through performance and interpersonal challenges.
  • Program Management / Education Services: Running scalable, human-centered programs where communication and follow-through are critical.
  • Working in a Remote Environment:Making remote collaboration seamless, equipping interns and companies with practical guidance to adapt to workflows, confidence to use remote working tools, and cultural awareness to bridge time zones, work styles, and communication norms.

If You’re Someone Who…

  • Gets satisfaction from helping others succeed
  • Balances empathy with accountability
  • Thrives in fast-paced, multicultural environments
  • Loves solving challenges through communication and structure

…then this is a role where you’ll truly make an impact.

Consider this our wish-list. We know there will be great candidates that don’t meet every one of these criteria—if you’re passionate about the role and have early-stage startup experience, we’d still love to hear from you.
